Prostate Cancer Mortality Statistics
Although prostate cancer mortality is something all
men should be aware of the chances of dying from it affects are
minimized if it is caught in its early stages. Prostate cancer is a
disease that must be taken seriously, but the mortality rate is
significantly lower then other forms of cancer. But just like any other
form of cancer it is a life threatening condition, but because of
advanced detection and treatment techniques has a better survival rate
than many other types of cancer.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related death for
men, second only to lung cancer. But the survival rate for men is nearly
ninety-eight percent for men diagnosed with this disease. One factor
that leads to such a high survivability is its relatively slow growth
rate, which allows for a better chance of diagnosis before it reaches a
terminal stage of growth.
The thing that is important to remember is that prostate cancer
mortality is something that can happen to any man if they choose to
ignore regular visits to the doctor along with the signs and symptoms of
this disease. Cancer of the prostate claims over 28,000 lives every
year. The sad thing is most of these cases are survivable if treatment
is gotten during the early stages.
Up until the age of forty prostate cancer is a rare condition for men.
Most men usually don't begin to develop this disease until they are
around the age of fifty, and the disease itself does not become severe
until around the age of seventy. This doesn't mean that men of a younger
age aren't at risk, but for the most part the pathology of prostate
cancer follows these age lines. In fact many men will die of other
causes before their prostate cancer reaches its terminal stage, with
many men remaining undiagnosed until an autopsy is performed.
The best way to reduce prostate cancer mortality concerns is to take a
preventative approach that involves living a healthy lifestyle which
includes diet and exercise along with regular visits to the doctor.
Detecting it early is nearly 100% effective in curing its effects before
it gains a strong foothold and becomes untreatable. |
