A Prostate Cancer Prevention Guide
Because of the increased effort to publicly educate
the public about prostate cancer by the medical community prevention of
this deadly disease has seen an increase in recent years. This increased
awareness is partially due to an increase in the amount of information
available to the general public through various media, including the
internet. This information has allowed all men equal ability to review
and understand the steps to cancer prostate prevention and how they can
reduce the risks of getting this disease.
Diet and the foods that men eat is one of the easiest ways to reduce the
risk according to the National Cancer Institute. By watching what they
eat all men can take the proper steps towards lessening the chance that
they will get cancer of the prostate. Eating large amounts of fats,
including animal and dairy, is a risk factor. A healthy diet to help
prevent prostate cancer includes lots of fruits and vegetables as well
as fiber. Lycopene, a nutrient found in tomatoes has been shown to
decrease the risk as well.
On the medical science front drugs are being developed that help control
the hormones that are associated with increased risk. Many studies are
being done with these medications to see how well they suppress the
onset of prostate cancer. There is some progress in this area, but at
this point in time there is little conclusive evidence that these drugs
work as well as other avenues of prevention.
There are risk factors that cannot be changed and these include age and
genetics. Men can do little to change their age or where they came from.
While this may sound like there is limited amount of things one can do
to prevent prostate cancer, this is not the case. Generally it comes
down to living a healthy lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and
exercise as well as regular visits to the doctor. Regular checkups as
men approach 50 are an absolute necessity when it comes to prostate
cancer prevention.
In the end learning all one can about this disease is one of the best
ways to prevent this disease. By increasing ones understanding about
prostate cancer prevention one can take the proper steps to avoid its
health stealing effects.
