Prostate Doctors and Cancer Diagnosis
In the last ten years prostate doctors have been able
to make significant inroads into the diagnosis and treatment of prostate
cancer. Each year new and bigger medical breakthroughs occur in all area
of medicine, resulting in better diagnostic techniques that catch
diseases earlier resulting in a better chance of successfully treating
and even curing the disease.
Medical science is a constantly evolving field with new knowledge about
disease processes becoming available on an almost daily basis. Much of
this knowledge comes about through scientific experimentation, research,
and also through the study and treatment of patients. Unfortunately the
more we learn about diseases such as prostate cancer the more questions
seem to come about, particularly when it comes to the best way to treat
them. Doctors are limited by what the latest science suggests are the
best routes when it comes to diagnosing and treating cancer of the
prostate.
In the last few years though many doctors have developed a change in
thinking about how they test for and diagnose prostate cancer. There is
growing confidence that this new procedure will help diagnose prostate
cancer at a much earlier age, giving men an even better chance of
surviving its effects.
Many prostate doctors recognize the importance of early detection for
cancer and how this can affect the type of treatment they may prescribe.
In fact, when it comes to any type of cancer early detection can be the
difference between survival and death.
This new testing procedure is based on scores that are tabulated when
cancer tests are administered to men. Many doctors feel that by lowering
the score threshold that indicates a biopsy should be done they can
detect and treat prostate cancer much earlier. There are those who feel
that this may result in many unnecessary biopsies, but for many men not
knowing until the later stages of prostate cancer may make having a
biopsy earlier in life worth it. |
