Prevent Prostate Disease with Proper Prostate Nutrition
Prostate cancer is a occurring at an alarming rate in
American men, with 1 in 6 expected to suffer from its effects in the
coming years. There are many reasons for this, from an aging population
that lives longer and genetic factors, but also risk factors such as
poor diet and a lack of exercise. These last two are something that ever
man can fix, but the sad fact is many men simply do not take care of
themselves, eating high fat diets, and leading sedentary lives that
increase their predisposition to having prostate problems.
Research has shown that proper
prostate nutrition is one of the first
keys in the prevention of prostate cancer and benign prostatic
hyperplasia, which is an enlargement of the prostate. The sooner any man
incorporates a healthy diet into his lifestyle the better his chances of
mitigating or preventing these conditions. Poor nutrition raises the
risk factor for any man, doubly so if they are already at risk because
of hereditary factors.
Choosing healthy and nutrient dense foods is the first step in getting
proper prostate nutrition. The reason for this is simple, these types of
foods have been shown to prevent or slow the growth of prostatic cancer
cells. While it is okay to eat red meat, it should be done in
moderation, particularly barbecued or charred meats. A better choice is
lean poultry and fish, such as tuna or salmon that are rich in omega-3
fatty acids.
Vegetables that contain sulforaphane, which slows the growth of cancer
cells and helps repair damage done to the body by cancer cells, include
cauliflower and broccoli. Lycopene, which is found in tomato sauce, is
an antioxidant that kills free radicals that are a cause of cancer.
Green tea and soy-based foods have also been shown to have anti-cancer
effects on the body.
Getting the proper prostate nutrition is not hard either. The foods that
help prevent prostate disease are readily available at the local grocery
store. The hard part is giving up the easily prepared and accessible
processed foods that have little nutritional value that we Americans
have grown so accustomed to. The good news is by slowly incorporating
nutritional foods back into the diet most men can overcome this bad
behavior and begin to take back control of their health. |
