Prostate Vitamins for Prostate Health
You can find any number of prostate vitamins and
supplements stacked on the shelves of health food stores and drug stores
or on any number of websites selling cancer prevention in a bottle. Some
come as a single vitamin or mineral while others are combinations of
vitamins, minerals, and herbals which are promoted as an all-in-one
preventative. There is a lot of information, both online and through
other media, about prostate vitamins and how they can be used to combat
the effects of prostate disease. But for many men the question remains
do these supplements actually help.
Many dietary supplements, including Beta Carotene, Vitamin E and
Selenium, have been scientifically proven to help fight the affects of
cancer, although there is little proof that they have the ability to
prevent prostate cancer. There is an ongoing study which actually
suggests that taking large doses of these vitamins can increase the rate
at which prostate cancer grows. While this study is still inconclusive
it does suggest that taking to many supplements can be just as damaging
as not getting enough of ones daily recommended dose of vitamins and
minerals.
The best way to get all our daily dose of needed vitamins and minerals
is through the food we eat. By eating a balanced and healthy diet men
can get enough of the nutrition they need without resorting to vitamin
supplements. Unfortunately most diets today are far from balance or
nutritious, so it only makes sense that most men are lacking in many
important nutrients, particularly those that help fight many different
medical conditions, including prostate disease.
There is nothing wrong with taking a vitamin supplement in this day and
age of refined and processed foods. But there is a limit to how much of
a good thing the body can handle. It is possible to overdose on vitamins
and minerals so the old adage "if a little is good, a lot must be
better" is not necessarily true when it comes to supplements.
The human body needs a certain amount of different nutrients to function
properly and when it doesn't get enough of certain things it affects
different bodily systems, causing irregularities in day to day cell
function. The same thing can happen if our bodies receive too much of
certain nutrients, sometimes with life threatening circumstances. |
